What kind of man are you?

"He would come back in the evening or maybe the following day, having slept who knows where, and the more storms and hunger he had endured the happier and healthier he was....... A man like this, when he’s dead, is dead forever. He’s not the kind you tell stories about or build monuments to; he’s all in his actions, and, once those are over, nothing remains—nothing but, precisely, words. So every time I try to talk about him, to bring him back to life, as I’m doing now, I feel a great sadness, an emptiness, as if I were on a cliff, and I have to be silent, or else drink.”

My place of sanctuary from the world when i need to be alone. My bed. Never do you miss your bed more then after sleeping in your car on a long road trip.

To read more

"I read somewhere—and the person who wrote this was not a mountaineer but a sailor—that the sea’s only gifts are harsh blows and, occasionally, the chance to feel strong. Now, I don’t know much about the sea, but I do know that that’s the way it is here. And I also know how important it is in life not necessarily to be strong but to feel strong, to measure yourself at least once, to find yourself at least once in the most ancient of human conditions, facing blind, deaf stone alone, with nothing to help you but your own hands and your own head… "

I have been off the road for little over a week now. Since returning home I have taken new pleasures in reading books and morning walks. I have since finished The Call Of The Wild, twice. I plan on walking to the library tomorrow morning to select a new book. New photos still to come.

Update On The Road-Montana

I've made it to Montana! Ya know the weather in Montana is always unpredictable, not 5 minutes after i crossed the Montana border did it start snowing as I made the huge climb up the grade of the Rocky Mountains. I head back to Cali on Thursday morning, untill then i plan on spending some time with my brothers and grandparents out in the country (aka no Internet). So until I make my way back to civilization i wont be able to post for a week or so. Until then Good-Oh.

Amy, The Coolest Datusn-Oregon

"It should not be denied... that being footloose has always exhilarated us. It is associated in our minds with escape from history and oppression and law and irksome obligations, with absolute freedom, and the road has always led West."
— Wallace Stegner

I had a very long and passionate conversation yesterday with my friends boyfriend about "The Open Road", and why people hitch hike, or vagabond. I told him it was the call of the road, the seeking or a new and changing horizon, ADVENTURE! His thoughts were if you don't have the money or time to travel then don't do it, there will be plenty of time when your retired. don't be a mooch. Retired! he said. Is this really the way it should be? Work your whole life away in the hope that you will be able to travel when you retire? If you even live till then. Carpe Diem.

So in honor of this conversation about travel I decided to dedicate this post to Amy, my car. The roughest toughest meanest little red headed Datsun that has braved sand, mud, rocks, snow, steep grades, trees, bushes, abandoned roads, dirt roads. you name it she has seen it, and concord it. I'm so proud of you Amy.

Back country farm-Oregon

Visited a farm today, it was the most stunning farm I have come across, straight out of a movie. Tomorrow I am attempting to get myself lost for the day ,while the couple i am staying with go to work. I saw some logging mills around the back roads, maybe that will lead me to an adventure. There is just so much to see and do here that it makes you just want to get out of the house and explore. I can only describe it as California, 80 years ago.

Lost-California/Oregon

I have two weeks, $300, a pair of sunglasses, and a car, I feel lost in my thoughts lately, so why not get lost on the road? I made it a goal to pick up as many hitch hikers as possible, maybe to hear some new stories and tell some of my own. I really need to start a journal! I've ended up in Eugene, Oregon so far. It was over whelming the first day of walking around, so much to see and do. Tomorrow will be picture day.
